Photoactivated nanocarriers of curcumin as antibacterial agents: pros and cons in a mathematical model
abstract: Curcumin is a natural substance, with antioxidant properties, that can be photoactivated by blue light, inducing the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) with consequent reduction of a large variety of bacteria. For these reasons, it is used in various applications, also the clinical ones. In particular, it can be inserted into nanocarriers to be delivered in a longer time, prolonging its effect.
The effectiveness of curcumin’s nanocarriers depends on various factors, as the type of carrier (solution, nanobubble, nanocrystal…), the illumination (no/white/blue light) and temperature. In this talk, an attempt of construction of a mathematical model to tune these parameters for future experiments is discussed.
